Professor Li Yao Guest Lectures at Peking University

The well-established translator and professor Li Yao recently delivered two guest lectures to the students of Professor David Walker’s Australian Studies Survey Course at Peking University. Professor Li Yao has translated over 30 Australian books into Chinese, and was recently recognised for his contribution to Australian literature in China with an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from the University of Sydney (see link to story here).

Professor Li Yao gave two lectures. In the first, entitled Translating Not Dark Yet, he described his experience translating Professor David Walker’s personal memoir. In a second lecture, Professor Yao dealt with translations of other Australian authors including Nobel Prize winner Patrick White, Thomas Keneally, Coleen McCullough, Alex Millar, Brian Castro and Alex Wright.
