The PKU Australian Studies Centre’s Offers Its First Summer School Course

    The PKU Australian Studies Centre’s intensive summer school course “Australia: From 1788 to the Present” kicked off on July 8 with a lecture on Aboriginal Australia by Prof. David Walker, BHP Billiton Chair Professor of Australian Studies at Peking University.

    “Australia” is the inaugural summer school course run by the Centre. Presented by Prof. Walker and Dr. Chen Changwei, the course presents an overview of Australian history, society and culture, from Aboriginal Australia, British occupation, to its increasing enmeshment with the Asia-Pacific region.
    The course is conducted in English and runs for four weeks through August 2, covering topics including politics, economy and language and humour. It will also feature a special guest lecture by Prof. Karen Walker on Australia health system. Apart from some teachers from other universities in Beijing, thirty three students formally registered for the course including students from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Tsinghua University and other universities. The teaching and learning of the course will also be assisted by interns from the Australian Studies Centre.
